Trip planner with no sign-up

A trip planner you can use without signing up

TripNova opens straight to your trips. Start as a guest, plan every day, and decide later whether you want a free account to back your trips up.

What you can do as a guest

A guest is anyone who has not signed in. There is no sign-up screen between you and your plan, and a guest can use all of these planning features:

  • Start a trip with just a name. Add the destination and dates when you know them.
  • Build a day-by-day itinerary of flights, hotels, restaurants, activities, and notes, and reorder a day when plans change.
  • Import flight and hotel bookings from PDFs, saved emails, Apple Wallet passes, or pasted text. TripNova reads them on your device.
  • Keep packing checklists, a list of travelers (name and contact only, no account needed), and up to 10 documents or photos per trip.
  • See each day’s stops on a trip map and open directions to a stop in your maps app, or in Google Maps in a new tab on the web. The map needs a connection.
  • Check the weather forecast for a day, up to 5 days from today, where one is available.
  • Download a PDF of the itinerary to print or share.
  • In the iOS and Android apps, get reminders for timed plans and for checklist items with a due date, once notifications are allowed.

The iOS and Android apps are coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.

Where your trips are stored

Guest trips live on your device. In the iOS and Android apps they are in the app’s storage on your phone, and in the web app they are in your browser’s storage on the device you are using. Opening TripNova does not create a cloud account or upload your trips, and a guest trip is not uploaded unless you later choose to move it into an account.

Trip content leaves your device only when you use an online feature, such as searching for a place or checking the weather, or when the trips in your account are backed up. Data that never leaves your device is not received by or accessible to NovaThrive LLC, the company behind TripNova. The privacy policy has the details.

The trade-off is that a device can lose its data, and the web app is upfront about it. Its notice for guests reads: “This browser can clear local data. A free account keeps a copy.” Trips stay on the browser and device where you made them, so another browser or device will not show them until you move them into a free account.

Export your trips or erase them

You do not need an account to take your trips with you or to wipe them. In Settings, Export my data is under Privacy & data and writes a machine-readable JSON file of what is stored on your device. As a guest it is made entirely on your device, even offline. The web app downloads the file directly, and the iOS and Android apps open the share sheet.

Erase data on this device, in the last group of Settings under Erase data, removes every trip and setting stored on that device after you confirm.

What a free account adds

An account is optional. When you want one, it adds:

  • Automatic backup and sync. Every trip in your account is backed up and synced on its own, and there is no per-trip setting. Backup starts once your email is verified.
  • Your guest trips, only if you say so. After you sign in or create an account, TripNova may offer to move the guest trips on that device into it. Accept, and they become account trips. Decline, and they stay on the device as guest trips.
  • A longer forecast window. Up to 7 days from today instead of up to 5, where a forecast is available.
  • Sign in with email, Google, or Apple.

TripNova is for people 18 and older, with or without an account.

Questions about planning without an account

Do I need an account to use TripNova?

No. As a guest you can create trips, plan itineraries, import bookings, and export your data. An account only adds backup, sync, and longer forecasts.

Does my trip leave my device if I do not sign in?

Your trips stay on your device, and data that never leaves your device is not received by or accessible to NovaThrive LLC. Online features such as place search and weather send their own requests. Trips in an account are backed up, and guest trips join an account only if you accept the offer to move them. The privacy policy describes each of these.

Does it work offline without an account?

Yes. Trips are saved to your device first, so you can plan and edit without a connection. In the browser, TripNova can work offline once it has been opened online on that device, and Settings, under Storage & offline, shows whether it is ready. Weather, place search, and map tiles still need a connection. The page on planning a trip offline has the full list.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

In the web app, guest trips are stored in the browser, and a browser can clear its stored data. Export your data first to keep a copy, or create a free account, verify your email, and accept the offer to move your guest trips, so a copy is kept for you.

Can I move my guest trips into an account later?

Yes. After you sign in or create an account, TripNova may offer to move the guest trips on that device. Nothing moves unless you accept.
